Membership
The MBSTC Membership Committee is responsible for all aspects of local
chapter membership.
Membership Committee Goals:
- To keep our current members satisfied with their membership in STC
and the chapter
- To encourage our members to grow personally and professionally by
taking an active part in chapter activites
- To encourage all technical communicators in the Baltimore
metropolitan area to “look STC over” and to join the Society
through our chapter
If you are new to the chapter, you should expect the following:
- A welcoming letter, e-mail, or phone call from the committee within
a month after you join or transfer into the chapter
- That information about you (your name, address, phone, email
address, and date you joined STC) is entered correctly in our member
database (for newsletter and event mailings, election ballots, etc),
and is kept up to date when your information changes
- That any information you wish to keep private will not be given out
to members (in our Membership Directory) or to nonmembers (in mailing
lists)
To help our members get to know each other and to connect with each other,
the Membership Committee does the following:
- Publishes a membership directory, updated once a year (usually in
July)
- Writes an article in each issue of the Chesapeake
bayline listing new chapter members and telling about
members’ personal or professional achievements
- Writes "meet-a-member" articles for the Chesapeake
bayline several times a year
- Greets all ‘first-timers’ at our meetings and tries to introduce
them to some of our other members and guests

membership problems, contact Lorraine Hughes at
